...as told by Matt in his bookie-wook
I felt so honoured to be in the competition with seven other amazing guys. I was over the frikkin' moon. Then when I later got put in the boys' category, I got to know some of them, and got on really well with a guy called Aiden Grimshaw. Some of you may have heard of him? We got on from the word go and stayed really good friends throughout the competition.
We first spoke after I saw his performance of David Gray's "This Year's Love." I was like, "Oh my God, that kid's got to get through, he's incredible." I went to speak to him afterwards and said I thought he was amazing, and he said the same to me. Then we both got through and that's when the bromance started!
After that, it was back home to reality, because I had to finish off all the painting I had booked in before I went to Judges' Houses. As I painted the last wall I thought, "I never, ever want to do this again as long as I live." Now all I had to do was get through Judges' Houses.
[...]
All of us guys got on really well, and Aiden and I hung out together a lot, but the more time we spent out there the more competitive it got between the eight of us. We knew that only three of us were going through so things did get increasingly tense.
[...]
At that point I didn't even know who else had got through, so I went back and asked one of the ladies who was working on the show. I was like, "Tell me it's Aiden, please tell me it's Aiden." When she said he'd made it I went and gave him the biggest hug I'd ever given anyone in my life.
We'd kind of mooted the idea of both of us getting through but had no idea what the chances were of it actually happening, so it was a brilliant moment. We were both so happy.
