Hi this is my review/report iof my visit to Wembly London 5/03/11
Oh did I tell you I was at the Wembley Show this afternoon.
Well I finally managed to get to Wembly Arena and met up with Cat, her daughter, daughters friend and mother fantastic group to all shout and cheer Matt.
OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well now I know what Louis meant when he said he had seen it all.
Overall: I agree with others that the production/perfomrance format is not ideal and also that the loud backgound music of some of the over produced numbers seems to over power the voices of the performers. There were a couple of exceptions Aiden in his second performance had minimal backing and Matt who also had minimal backing and their clothes were simple thus not distracting one from the wonder of their voices. We are always saying that Matt has such a limited /simple wardrobe this may be a deliberate ploy to contrast his performaces from the others, we actually here him sing and not just the background music. I don't not want lights flicking on and off all the time and the artist marching up and down the stage I went to listen to the singing ...............still it is a show and I must not be selfish; still lets get to the performers and my opinion of their performances.
Cher well her opening performance was ok however I could hardly hear what she was singing and had it not been for the large screens I would not have known it was her at all; however her last performance 'Stay' was her best there were fewer lights she just sang. I think they concentrated on her clothes, background music and over production to carry her through.
Paige ........he was not to strong in his first performance however he made up for it in his second song; he has a powerful voice which is shown to its best when singing soul songs; as Cat has said he might have been overwhelmed.
Aiden well I felt his version of DAF was really good he also has stage presence too. His second performance took place in the middle of the arena on a small podium - good performances and there were screams from the fans after each performance. Loved the way he was dressed in both performances.
Katie .......well the production and background music for both of her performances almost drowned out her voice and I was not keen on the performaces even they were colourful but thats about it.
HeWho well I love Latin American music and letting him sing (Living La Vida Loca) was not something I would want to hear him sing again - light hearted and colourful dancers with short skirts but little voice.
Mary well she did sing however she seemed to be 'shouting' trying to gain our attention it seemed; her performances were not really for me.
1D well what can I say ......after the screaming had died down we could hear their voices; they are OK but just as Cat said their solos showed up the weaknesses. They did their best lets leave it there.
Rebecca her production, background music and clothing combined made her performances seem very sophisticated the dark blues and purple employed in said productions enhanced this too. Her voice is good however she just does hit not the right spot with me there is something missing - however saying that her performance of Sweet Dreams was possibly her best performamce of the night. Rebecca spoke to the audience asking them how they were and if they were enjoying themselves.
Matt ......who? Matt!! Oh well what can I say
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGG !!!!!!! We knew it was him so we all stood up, the little grils in the front the teenagers to the right of us the older members of the audience all stood up and I was stunned for a moment by the applause that Matt was getting. I was shouting Cat was too as were all those mentioned above ..........shouting at the top of their voices cheering too; he seemed to have set the areana alight and this before he had even sung a note! Matt entered through the floor on the stage and continued to rise until the block that he was standing on was at least about 8 ft. high he then started to sing 'Firework' well we all began to sing with him I say sing I think it was at the top of out voices we just all wanted to show how much we appreciated him; Cat said she thinks she was shouting the loudest; well all I can add is that cannot remember shouting like for any other performer ever he was fantastic. The whole arena just seemed to be singing the song with him they loved him. Then he finished the song and again the audience erupted they went mad again. Then Matt introduced the next song he was going to sing 'Nights In White Satin' .......wife in tow; I cannot think of a word that is sufficient to discribe his voice it was awe-inspiring. Oh Matt then sang the song 'Just The Way You Are' he moved across the walkway; we all began to sing this song with him as did most of the audience standing whilst doing this, time had lost its meaning, we were singing with Matt he had the audience under his spell already. The audience erupted again shouting and screaming all around. OMG!!! We knew what he was going to sing next because we have seen the Yts many in the audience did not know; he announced that he would be singing 'First Time', Oh the voice it was unbelievable the emotion he was able to make the audience feel was incredible. Then he finished and the audience again erupted the arena shook it seemed. The final song he sang was was 'When We Collide' the audience was on their feet, including myself and Cat singing with Matt - the arena exploded when it finished. Well we thought he had finished..........by this time he was now on the stage and thanking the band and introducing them to the audience he then proceeded to sing another verse of WWC - he finish the audience exploded with applause shouting and screaming for him omg !!! Matt thanked everyone he seemed taken aback by the reaction he had received.
We now go onto the singing of 'Heroes' it was so much better than any of the recordings what a wonderful job they all did - Matt finished the show by thanking the audience for coming to the performances. Well all I can say is for me it was the Matt show and I would have just been happy with he being the only person performing. Oh I enjoyed the whole thing you have to go his voice is incredible.

Originally posted in the DS MAT - Wembley matinee 5-3-11 - went with Mita (see above!), daughter, daughter's friend and her Mum. OMFG!!!!!!!!! Had to upload photos first (seem to have lost those from the 1st half so it's virtually all Matt ) See them here www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=283889&id=1210390875&l=be78dc8b7aIt was so worth going just to see Matt - utterly, utterly brilliant - still haven't calmed down. ;D ;D ;D Overall - would agree with others who've been that the one at a time performances is not a good format. Cher - opening performance was pretty good and Stay in the 2nd half the best of hers. I think she's probably got a good enough fan base to make something of herself. Paije - liked him a lot but seemed a bit overwhelmed. Aiden - very good, would have liked to see more of him. Katie - nah. HeWho - worse than ever though my daughter thought his 2nd one (Living La Vida Loca) was entertaining. Mary - not awful but still a bit shouty for me. Will probably make some sort of career - cruise ship kind of thing maybe? Rebecca - good but not entirely my cup of tea. Sweet dreams probably her best performance and I still much prefer Adele's version of Make You Feel My Love. One Direction - cue lots of screaming from the tweenies - I thought they were OK when singing together but solo bits showed up some particularly poor vocals from Liam which I was surprised about. Zayn seems to have improved and I always thought Harry was the best of the bunch. Matt - OMFG - he really was utterly brilliant. The screams for 1D were nothing compared to those for Matt and I was probably screaming loudest. Firework on a rising podium at the main stage, followed by Nights in White Satin (sublime) and then the walkway to mini stage in centre of arena came down for Just the Way you are. Seemed like the entire audience was joining in - totally in the palm of his hand. First Time - incredible vocals and even at 5 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon he manages to fill the lyrics with all the emotion they deserve. And finally When We Collide - again everyone singing along. The only downside was too short a set - I could have very happily sung along with him for an entire two hours.

Right. Got there at 12ish so we could have something to eat. I bought a programme (£10 – a rip off but it had to be done). Our seats were level 1, middle, opposite the bridge, and between the two stages. So pretty perfect. I was really impressed with 02 as I hadn't seen it since it was the Dome. It's massive and it was a full house so the sound was incredible. The friend I went with wasn’t a Matt fan, couldn’t stand his voice and had voted for Rebecca. I’m going to review it as my bottom to top in performance, as we all pretty much know the running order now and it hasn’t changed. Wagner – only here because he is the comedy act. Great entertainment though and lots of energy. Mary – quite shouty. Second song was better. Katie – her voice is not bad, but like on the TV show, she isn’t sure what she is. She comes across as needy and a bit lost. She’d be good in musical theatre or entertainment unless she can sort herself out. I liked her blue dress though. Cher – lots of energy, hated most of her songs, quite liked the last one, terrible amount of makeup, hair horrible, looked tired and old for her age. I think she has something but she hasn’t found it yet. Rebecca – a great voice but no presence. She reminds me of a catwalk model who can sing. Needs lower heels so she can move. The lack of interest in her was highlighted when in her last song when she is strung up on stage, the audience became aware of the middle stage being set up with 5 mics. A lot of the audience were more interested in that than her, so she doesn’t hold her audience. Paige – great voice. Terrible clothes. Will do well if he can dress himself and maybe get a personal trainer. Aiden – amazing voice, very strong, great presence, two songs were not enough. Both songs note perfect. He’s a very striking singer. One Direction – have to say they have something. Certainly have the audience in the palm of their hands, including me. Massive screams as expected. Harry especially has that special something, and a great voice, as has Louie, the others are a bit hit and miss (especially Zayn at times). But they are very tight as a group now. Matt – I was getting butterflies as we got closer and had a bit of a lump in my throat watching his VT. Everyone was screaming when his VT came on and up on their feet for him, and he and 1D were pretty much the only acts people stood up for. I will say to me he looked tired, but he wasn’t the only one. Cher and Rebecca especially looked exhausted. Whether Matt was just generally tired or it was a late night who knows, but his eyes were puffy and I’m not sure he was firing on all cylinders. There was a moment after JTWYA when he had a drink of water and did that puffing up cheeks and exhaling thing you do when you’re a bit weary. But, the reason he is so good is despite that, he was totally professional, his voice was note perfect, he was quite brilliant. He worked the crowd. Everyone was up on their feet singing with him. FTEISYF was incredible. WWC the same. He is on a different level or more than any of the others. Just incredible. It was just too quick. I want an entire 2 hour performance. Generally, the overall sound wasn’t good I have to say and I don’t like how the running order is as others have said. The stylist needs shooting. I do feel for them all as they are on a treadmill really and it must get very tiring doing it over and over again at times. The big plus though was my friend who turned to me and said that Matt was a great singer and if he sings like that at his concerts he’ll come with me to see him. His fav acts in order were 1D, then Matt and Aiden tied (together) followed by Mary. Said he couldn’t believe he’d voted for Rebecca. So a fantastic day. Thank you Matt and thank you 02.
